Looking Back While Looking Forward

Updated: Feb 3, 2021

Hey, y’all! I know we’re already a month into the year, but is it too late to say “Happy New Year”? It’s been a while since I’ve been blogging in these Internet streets, but I just thought I would pop my face in and say “hello”.

I’ve gotta be honest, y’all. 2020 was quite the year, and I’m sure many of you can relate. For many of us, it was a year of growth, reflection, grief, change, breakthroughs, all the things! It was a year of trials, triumphs, heartache, and healing. It was painful, yet powerful.

One of the things that 2020 reinforced for me was that opposites/opposing forces can coexist. For instance, I can feel grateful for what I have, but also grieve the loss of traditions, cancelled trips, and social interactions as I knew them. I can feel joyful that my business has grown tremendously over the past year, but also stressed and frustrated because of the increased demands and workload.

Although 2020 came at many of us with hurricane force winds and torrential downpours, it also gave us space to reflect on who we are and what matters most to us (at least it did for me). It reminded me that while there is so much outside of my control and while life will always be filled with uncertainty, there is also a lot that is within my control. And when I focus on what is within my control, I feel empowered and free. Finally, it reminded me that even though navigating through life during a pandemic has forced many of us to be in survival mode, we can still thrive.

If you are looking for a tool to help you thrive, live a life that is more aligned with your values, and develop a more self-compassionate relationship with yourself, be sure to grab a copy of "Write It Out!
